In 1913, Ernest Shackleton, an Irish explorer, planned to cross Antarctica via the South Pole. Early in 1915, 'Endurance' became trapped in the ice, and ten months later sank. Shackleton's crew had already abandoned the ship to live on the floating ice. In April 1916, they set off in three small boats, eventually reaching Elephant Island. Taking five crew members, Shackleton went to find help but all did not go to plan. In our English we will discover all about his disastrous trip.
Below is the poster which Shackleton created to entice his crew.....today we will write a much better poster advertising for a crew!

Daily Arithmetic Tasks - 'Fluent in Five'
This weeks daily arithmetic tests can be found in the document below. These are five minute tests for the children to practice and improve their mental arithmetic knowledge (ability to work out mathematical questions in their heads) as well as practising the different calculation methods they have been taught.
Year 4 - Multiplication Tables Check
The academic year 2019/2020 was the first year the Government were to introduce the 'Multiplication Tables Check' (MTC) for all pupils in Year 4. This test would be a mixture of multiplication questions, ranging from the 2 to 12 times table. The purpose of the MTC is to determine whether pupils can recall their times tables fluently, which is essential for future success in mathematics. Although the children have missed this test due to the current circumstances, it is likely they will sit it again on their return, therefore it is important they focus specifically on their times tables whilst learning from home.
Here are some documents to help your child continue to practice their times tables:
Don't forget to log onto Times Table Rockstars regularly too!
Remember... keep logging into Mathletics and TimesTable Rockstars to practise your recall of key facts. Why not challenge some of your friends?

Task 2- To create a poster advertising an adventurous opportunity to travel to the Antarctica as a member of Ernest Shackelton's team.
