Modern Foreign Languages

To learn a language, is to have one more window from which to look at the world - Chinese proverb.

At St. Nicholas, we teach weekly Spanish lessons throughout Key Stage 2. Our MFL curriculum is designed to follow a 2-year rolling programme to ensure coverage and progression amongst year groups, including mixed-age classes. Planning is taken from the Primary Languages Network schemes of work that are available.

During each unit, children will be learning new content and vocabulary, as well as repeating and revisiting core vocabulary. Children will also be listening out for key sounds in their development of phonics within the language and understanding of grammatical concepts. Each of these are outlined in the termly knowledge organiser.

MFL Long Term Plan

In Upper Key Stage 2, the children will also have the opportunity to do a Latin topic, so they experience a wider range of languages, looking at how it has impacted our language, spelling and culture today.
