E-Safety

All pupils participate in regular age appropriate E-Safety education within computing and PSHE lessons, through Safer Internet Day activities and assemblies and in workshops delivered in conjunction with outside agencies. It is vital that the messages taught in school are reinforced at home and we frequently send home guidance to help you to have E-Safety conversations with your children.

Welcome to the Safer Schools App provided via Zurich.

Safeguarding children and young people is one of the most important issues facing parents, carers and those responsible for educating and empowering children and young people.

Safeguarding across the school community has become even more complex in the context of children’s access to technology and use of social media.

That is why we have opted to provide access to this app for our parents, carers, children and staff.

The Safer Schools App is designed for staff, parents/carers and pupils. It helps support and protect children by educating and empowering them at school and at home. Staff, parents/carers and pupils receive tailored content specific to their role. Pupils also receive different content depending on their year group.

Users will also receive school-generated push notifications and updates from the h2b Safer team on keeping children and young people safe.

According to the 2022 Ofcom report into media attitudes among children and their parents, more than a third of 12-17 year olds (35%) report using the internet in ways that could put them at greater risk.

This includes a fifth who surf in incognito mode (21%) and another fifth (19%) who delete their browsing history, both of which mean no one can check what they’re viewing because the information has gone.

A new classification of online risk includes the 4Cs

The new CO:RE 4Cs classification recognises that online risks arise when a child:

engages with and/or is exposed to potentially harmful CONTENT;
experiences and/or is targeted by potentially harmful CONTACT;
witnesses, participates in and/or is a victim of potentially harmful CONDUCT;
is party to and/or exploited by a potentially harmful CONTRACT.
