    Reading Books

The children will bring home two different types of books.

One is a Read Write Inc phonics book, this needs to be

    brought to school every day.

The other is a library book, this will be sent home every

Tuesday and needs to be brought back

every Monday along with their homework.

These books are to share as a family, make it a fun

    reading experience for your children!

    Read Write Inc

At St Nicholas Catholic Primary School we use a phonics scheme called Read Write Inc. In reception we begin to introduce Set 1 sounds from the beginning of the academic year. We understand the first couple of week we are helping them to settle into their new environemnt, we ensure that phonics is within the different areas of provision and a focus during small carpet times. As we progress throughout the year, we mirror the Read Write Inc structure into our daily timetable where children depending on their phonics ability are grouped in smaller groupings to focus on developing their understanding of Set 1 Sounds and learning how to blend further.

Below you will find a copy of all of Set 1 Sounds that we expect all children to know and be able to blend at the end of recpetion.

    Forest School

This acadmeic year, the children in reception will have the amazing opportunity to participate in Forest School Sessions which is led within our school grounds. The Forest School sessions are run by Chris who is a qualified teacher and the proprietor of 'Born of the Forest', a renowned school nestled in Harrogate. Theses sessions promise an enriching experinece in the heart of nature.

During these session, children will immerse themselves in the wonders of the forest environment, learning invaluable skills while having fun. From understadning safety protocols to exploring the plants around them, every session is filled with exploration and discovery. Children will have the chnace to engage with various activities, inlcuding crafting around the campfire, navigation rope ladders, lounging in hammocks, and testing thier balance and slacklines.

Forest School will be every Monday unless you recieve a text message stating otherwise. On Monday's, your child will come to school in their own clothes. Appropraite clothes should be worn such as jumpers, joggers, or leggings. School will provide welly boots and wetsuits for your child as they take part in Forest School.
