About Our Diocese
St Nicholas Catholic Primary School is proud to be part of the Diocese of Leeds, a Catholic community which stretches across parts of West Yorkshire, North and East Yorkshire, Lancashire and Greater Manchester.
The Diocese brings together more than 100 churches and 93 Catholic schools, including primary and secondary schools, a sixth-form college and specialist Catholic education. Together, these communities share in the mission of the Church and support children and families in growing in faith.
Our school is part of this wider diocesan family, working alongside our parish and other Catholic schools to help our children know and experience the love of Christ and live out our mission: “Love one another, as I have loved you.” (John 13:34)
The Diocese is led by the Bishop of Leeds, with the Bishop’s residence and diocesan administrative offices based in Headingley.
Bishop Marcus
The Right Reverend Marcus Stock is the tenth Bishop of Leeds. He was appointed by Pope Francis in 2014 and was ordained and installed as Bishop of Leeds on 13 November 2014.
Before becoming Bishop, Bishop Marcus served in a number of parishes and had a strong involvement in Catholic education, including working as Director of Schools for the Archdiocese of Birmingham and Acting Director of the Catholic Education Service. He studied Theology at the University of Oxford and trained for the priesthood in Rome.
As Bishop of Leeds, he leads and serves the Catholic community across our Diocese, including its parishes and Catholic schools. His episcopal motto is “Desiderio, desideravi” – “I have desired with desire to be with you” (Luke 22:15).
