Accessibility Statement

Website Accessibility Statement

This accessibility statement applies to the website of St Nicholas Catholic Primary School, Leeds.

At St Nicholas Catholic Primary School, we want as many people as possible to be able to access and use our website. We aim to make our website clear, simple to navigate and accessible to all members of our school community.

For example, users should be able to:

  • change colours, contrast levels and fonts using browser or device settings;
  • zoom in without text becoming difficult to read;
  • navigate most of the website using a keyboard;
  • use assistive technology, including screen readers, to access most website content;
  • access the website across different devices, including computers, tablets and smartphones.

We also aim to make the information on our website as clear and easy to understand as possible.

AbilityNet provides advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.

Accessibility of Our Website

When creating and updating our website, we aim to:

  • use clear headings and page structures;
  • use clear and readable text;
  • maintain appropriate colour contrast;
  • provide alternative text for meaningful images;
  • use meaningful and descriptive wording for links;
  • structure tables appropriately;
  • provide captions, transcripts or alternatives for multimedia where appropriate;
  • ensure that important information is not communicated through colour alone;
  • make documents accessible wherever reasonably possible.

We continue to review the content we add to our website and work with our website provider, Juniper Education, where technical accessibility improvements are required.

Compliance Status

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standard, due to the exemptions and potential accessibility limitations outlined below.

As a primary school, some of our website content is partially exempt from the accessibility regulations. However, information that people need in order to access and use our services should be accessible.

Content That May Not Be Fully Accessible

Although we aim to make our website as accessible as possible, some content may not currently meet all accessibility requirements. This may include:

  • some older PDF documents which may not be fully accessible to screen reader software;
  • historical documents created before current accessibility requirements;
  • some embedded or third-party content, such as maps, social media feeds or resources hosted on external websites;
  • older images which may not have appropriate alternative text;
  • older tables or documents which may not have been created with accessibility in mind;
  • video content which may not always have captions, transcripts or other accessible alternatives.

As we develop and update our website, we will aim to improve these areas.

If you experience difficulty accessing any document or information on our website, please contact us. Where possible, we will provide the information in an alternative accessible format.

What We Are Doing to Improve Accessibility

We are committed to continually improving the accessibility of our website.

As part of this, we:

  • consider accessibility when creating new website content;
  • review and update older content where appropriate;
  • aim to provide meaningful alternative text for images;
  • aim to ensure that new documents are accessible;
  • use clear headings, links and page structures;
  • work with our website provider where technical improvements are required;
  • respond to accessibility issues brought to our attention;
  • regularly review our website and accessibility statement.

Third-Party Content

Our website contains links to external websites and may include content provided by third-party organisations.

Although we aim to choose accessible resources wherever possible, we cannot always control the accessibility of content hosted by another organisation.

If you experience difficulty accessing third-party content linked from our website, please contact us and we will try to help you access the information you need.
