Our Parish

St. Nicholas school is situated next to St. Nicholas church, which together with Our Lady of Good Counsel forms the Parish of the Blessed Edmund Sykes. Our Parish Priest is Father Reilly.

On 15th August, 2010, the parishes of St. Nicholas’ and Our Lady of Good Counsel were amalgamated to become the Parish of Bl. Edmund Sykes, under one Parish Priest, following the prerogatives of Bishop Arthur Roche of Leeds.

Both churches serve geographically neighboring communities and their histories have much in common.  Both former Parishes owe their existence to the Providence of God Who sent “missionary” Priests to the respective areas.  They came to find the Catholics living there and to offer Holy Mass, often in makeshift facilities that were made as dignified as possible.

Both communities saved and made sacrifices to build the churches that we see today, and have kept the Faith alive in Gipton and Seacroft through the offering of the Mass, by raising devout Catholic families, nourishing Priestly and religious vocations, and by growing in personal holiness and in witness and service to others.
