Welcome to the Year 4 Class Page!

Year 4 is an exciting year at St Nicholas, which encourages the children to develop independence and confidence within their final year of Lower Key Stage Two. This year is packed with lots of fun and exciting opportunities for the children!

Here you can take a look at all the exciting things we have been doing throughout the year. Below, you will also find copies of children's termly topic leaflets, homework and spelling lists as well as links to key learning resources for the children to use outside of school.

Spring Spellings  Year 4 homework is set weekly using Google Classroom. Children are also encouraged to access spag.com, Matheltics, Readiwriter and TT Rockstars to support their learning.

 

Key Reminders 

PE is timetabled for Monday and Friday afternoon. Full PE kit is expected to be worn on this day. For details on the required PE kit, please see the PE page. 

Children MUST bring pumps into school to wear indoors. Please clearly label the pumps with your child’s name.

Please ensure that all uniform, coats, pumps and PE kits are clearly labelled with your child’s name.

It is very important that the children be listened to read regularly. Once the children have read their book, they must bring it back to school so that it can be changed. 

Ensure all children bring in a water bottle. It is really important that the children stay hydrated throughout the day.

This year, the Year 4 children will have a times table check in the Summer term. Therefore, we encourage the children to practise their times tables daily at home. Please use the websites provided above to support them with this.

Year 4 have had a busy Autumn term filled with lots of fun and exciting activities!  Take a look below to see what we have been up to. 

 

World Mental Health Day 

We marked this special day by wearing the brightest and best clothes we could to celebrate this very important day. Throughout the day, we talked about metal health and how important it was to take care of our mental health. 

 

Mindfulness Choice Day 

As part of our PSHE learning about mental health, we had a choice day where we focused on the importance of mindfulness and allowing ourselves time to focus and become more self aware. During this day, we decided we would like to paint, read and complete Yoga. We had a fantastic day!

Reading in Year 4 

This year, Year 4 have discovered a love of reading! We read every day and enjoy our reading sessions. In Guided Reading this term, we read The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane and it was our favourite story! We love to read in the reading corner, listen to audio book and recommend books to each other! We even visited the St Nicholas Reading Café this term, we had juice and biscuits, browsed the new books and choose our favourites to go in our class reading corner!

Remembrance Day 2022

Year 4 marked Remembrance Day with a thoughtful and reflective class assembly. We remembered all who have fought and lost their lives to war. Our parents joined us to mark this special day.

Herd Farm Residential 

We started the term with a very exciting adventure - our very first overnight residential! We went to Herd Farm, for an action packed few days of adrenaline filled activities. Have a look at our photos below.

National Story Telling Week 

 We loved celebrating National Story Telling week! Our favourite parts of the week included: our parents surprising us as secret readers and coming to school in our pyjamas with our favourite bed time story book!

Advent in Year 4 

During the season of Advent, Year 4 reflected on how we can be the best versions of ourselves and help others on the lead up to Christmas. We also had lots of fun at our St Nicholas Day sleepover, Christmas party and even had some of Santa's little helpers arrive in the Year 4 classroom!

We have worked with Groundworks to learn more about our local area, had skipping training from the skipping school and learnt all about Ancient Greece.
